| According to Save Our Cemeteries, the first burial in the Searing - Pond tomb was Helena Jane Sibley Pond, who married Byron M. Pond. Her sister, Arthemise Ann Sibley, was married to Robert Searing. Helena died on the Muscatine, a steamboat traveling the Mississippi River, while in childbirth. Her stillborn, unnamed daughter is buried in the casket with her. It took the bodies over 11 months to reach New Orleans.
